Niña was born on October 31, 1979, at Quezon City Medical Center, near the capital Manila, to lawyer parents, but her father died when Niña was only three years old. Niña grew up in Quezon City with her older sister, Mary Anna. My mother has a devotion to Divine Mercy. Because of her job at the Ministry of Justice, she and her children moved to Sarrat in April 1988, when Niña was nine years old. She has a special devotion to the Eucharist, and is committed to being an apostolate, through distributing rosaries, Bibles and prayer books, and religious icons in neighborhoods and schools. Although she began to feel tired due to her heart condition, Niña still had an unwavering faith and flexibility.

At age ten, doctors discovered Niña had hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The child lived three years of illness in peace and with deep faith. The baby died and was buried in a public cemetery in Sarrat, and his grave was visited by many believers.


Bishop Renato Mayugba, Bishop of the local Laoag Diocese, sent a moral letter announcing the approval of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to open an investigation for the beatification of Niña Ruiz-Abad, after receiving complete support. The bishop wrote: "Niña's life was a life of prayer, with hours of adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and a close relationship with God, with Jesus, The Holy Spirit and Mary.”
