The end of the world (also known as the end of time, the last day) is a future point in time that is variously described in the eschatology of many world religions (both Abrahamic and non-Abrahamic). originating from Abraham), teaches that world events will reach an ultimate climax.

Abrahamic faiths maintain a linear cosmology, with end-time scenarios containing themes of transformation and redemption. In Judaism, the term "apocalypse" is related to the Messianic Age and includes a community of exiled Jewish diasporas, the coming of the Messiah, the resurrection of the righteous, and the world upcoming. Some sects of Christianity describe the end times as a period of tribulation that will precede Jesus' second coming, and will confront the antichrist with his power structure and usher in Kingdom of God.

In Islam, the Day of Judgment will occur after the coming of al-Masih al-Dajjal, and then the descent of Isa (Jesus). Isa will triumph over the impostor, or Antichrist, and will lead to a chain of events. These events will end with the sun rising from the west and the beginning of Qiyamah (day of judgment).

Non-Abrahamic faiths tend to have more cyclical world views, with eschatological scenarios emphasized with decadence, redemption, and eventual rebirth. In Hinduism, the end of time occurs when Kalki, the last incarnation of Vishnu, descends to earth on a white horse and brings an end to the current Kali Yuga period. In Buddhism, Buddha predicted that his teachings would be forgotten after 5,000 years, followed by chaos. A Bodhisattva named Maitreya will appear and rediscover the teachings of dharma. The final destruction of the world will then pass through the seven suns.

Since the development of the concept of deep time in the 18th century and the calculation of estimates of the age of the Earth, scientific writing about the end of the world has focused on the ultimate fate of the universe. Theories have included Big Rip, Big Crunch, Big Bounce and Big Freeze (heat death).
