Fortunately, the gun was stuck and German avoided it, while a member of the church crushed Polite to the ground. German and the church member cooperated to take a gun from Polite, who was quickly suppressed until the police arrived.

After the police caught Polite, German had a short conversation with Polite. German said he believed Polite was facing a certain form of mental illness.

The priest also said that Polite told him that he heard voice, this is a symptom of schizophrenia. He added that Polite apologized to him and he forgave him.

German also praised the parishioner for helping. “He might die in that battle but he was willing to sacrifice himself for everyone. He is a hero. ”

According to the court's document, Polite said: "The Lord told me to do this." He planned to shoot German and "wait for being arrested" into jail.

Polite faced many allegations, including serious assault and conspiracy to kill people. On the 6th, he was imprisoned at Allegheny prison without being released on bail.

The state police said they did not know whether Polite would hire a lawyer and the district court records did not list the lawyer.

The district police said the body of a shooting victim was found in a house near the church, where Polite was not long before going to the church.

The district's medical inspection office on the 6th confirmed the body was of Derek Polite, 56, residents in North Braddock, but did not reveal whether he was related to Bernard Polite.
