A Ukrainian Orthodox priest of the Moscow Orthodox Patriarchate was stabbed by an unknown person with a knife in the city of Vinnytsia in central Ukraine and was later taken to a hospital for treatment in a serious condition.
Russia's Ria Novosti news agency reported that the head priest, Anthony Kovtonyuk, was attacked with a knife. The assailant entered the Church of the Mother of God in Vinnytsia and began to behave unusually. When the priest tried to calm the man down and respect order, he stabbed the priest in the throat with a knife. An investigation into this attack is underway.
In recent times, the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Patriarchate of Moscow in Russia has been specially investigated by Ukrainian security officials. Some reports say that investigating soldiers have found pro-Russian documents. Ukraine's parliament is also being asked to draft a law banning the Ukrainian Orthodox communities of Moscow from operating.
