A Catholic priest was killed by armed men on January 2, in the northeastern African country of Burkina Faso.
It was Father Jacques Yaro Zerbo, 67 years old, of the Diocese of Dédougou in the Boucle du Mouhoun region. In a newsletter sent to Fides news agency of the Congregation for the Evangelization of the Gospels and transmitted on January 3, Bishop Prosper Bonaventure Ky, the local bishop, said that Father Zerbo was ordained a priest in 1986 and is active in the east. North Burkina Faso is the region most affected by terrorism. Here, 28 civilians were killed on the night of December 30-31, 2022, in retaliation following a "terrorist" attack in the city of Nouna, the capital of Kossi province.
