Syria: the statue of Our Lady crying attracts Christians and Muslims to see it

This is a miracle for a small village in Syria: within 48 hours, the statue of Our Lady crying attracted Christians and Muslims to come and see.

On September 8, on the Nativity of Our Lady, the city of Yabroud inaugurated a large statue of Our Lady in the presence of the Bishop of Homs, the Apostolic Nuncio and the Greek-melkite Catholic Father, Grégoire III. Laham. Civilian and Muslim figures were also present at the ceremony.

For priest Georges Haddad, the city's vicar, the statue is an answer to the Islamist extremists, who destroyed many of them during their occupation.

Tears on the statue within two days

A few days after the city of 60,000 was liberated in spring 2014, a few people returned to their homes, often destroyed or looted. Father Georges remembers hearing from parishioners confirming that there was a statue of Our Lady weeping in the small chapel next to the Constantin-Hélène Shrine.

The next day the children came to see: the statue of Our Lady was still crying. “I saw a tear in the corner of Our Lady's eye and Our Lady shined brightly, the event lasted 48 hours,” explained the priest in front of the statue, which no longer has this phenomenon, but there are still many parishioners every day. Christians, Muslims come to pilgrimage.

Tears of joy or sadness?

A few blocks away, a family father opened his cell phone and showed a picture of Our Lady crying: “These are tears of joy because Yabroud's children are beginning to return.” he told and showed many pictures of his house destroyed by bombs and then rebuilt, he did not want "to let the terrorists win".

Father Georges is more careful about the meaning of these tears: “We wonder what the message from Our Lady… Our Lady wept for the suffering of the Syrians? Sure. Our Lady is happy that her children have returned? Sure. We don't know, but we honor Our Lady and entrust our parish in Our Lady's hands," said the priest, proud of the new statue that was placed in the church yard, the church being destroyed. hunted by terrorists.

“Our Lady constantly protects us in this war, she constantly reminds us that we are her children, if we neglect we will lose hope,” said a young mother who has just returned from the hospital. after the city was liberated. So this statue is a thank you, a way to resist and to encourage all those who return even though they have to suffer because of this never-ending war.
