Around 8 p.m. on September 7, a strong earthquake struck Acapulco with a magnitude of 7.1 and was felt in several states of Mexico.
The epicenter of the earthquake was located 11 km from the city of Acapulco, in the state of Guerrero. According to the National Seismic Administration, by 11 a.m. on September 8, 210 aftershocks had been recorded. At least one person was killed and some damage to structures was reported across the city and vicinity.
In the area close to the quake, residents of Bajos del Ejido also felt the tremors that shook the city of Acapulco.
In the final hours, however, one image moved the members of the parish of San José Patriarca and gave them hope after the earthquake.
The church shared a photo in which the image of Christ, who had fallen from the altar cross during the earthquake, was found standing.
The publication reads: “It was incredible to find the standing Christ fallen and on the altar. This is how I find it now as I walk into the Parish office. Have mercy on us and on the whole world.”
