Several photos of an alleged apparition in Nigeria circulated across social media recently. Christian persecution currently plagues the region, with attacks and daily kidnappings of Catholic priests.
Fr. Evaristus Bassey of Nigeria published several photos he alleges are an apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary. He said Our Lady appeared to more than 100 people, including a Protestant pastor, on June 22.

The first tweet reads, “On Wed., [June 22, 2022] the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared in one of our parishes in Calabar, St. Charles Lwanga. It was something more than 100 people witnessed, even a Protestant pastor who came to visit his cousin, the assistant priest. He took these pictures.”

The second tweet reads, “The rays around her were too bright for a clear picture. She moved up to the Shrine dedicated to her and then was taken up. It was amazing, the entire aura around the parish, that evening. She didn’t say anything to anyone. But I think she came to assure of God’s presence with us.”
Fr. Bassey later interviewed alleged witnesses.
The priest posted three photos of the witnesses, along with their testimonies. Many of them said they could not capture clear photos because the alleged apparition was so bright.
